Artist Statement

Art is both a challenge and a profound experience for me. My plein air paintings are direct reflections of observations and perceptions of the natural world. I cherish painting outdoors, where I can immerse myself in nature and document places and moments that captivate me. The changing light, shifting weather, and varying times of day all influence my work, presenting a dynamic challenge to capture each fleeting moment.

Every scene holds potential, and returning to a favorite location reveals a new perspective shaped by different weather and conditions. This evolving record allows me to create diverse interpretations of the same place. I use rich archival colors and contrasts, and incorporate oil paint or pastels-and occasionally ink with watercolor for Urban Sketching—to draw viewers into my paintings.

My commitment to high-quality surfaces and materials ensures that each piece is not only visually engaging but also durable. If my paintings enhance your appreciation of my perspective, highlight details of nature you might have overlooked, or resonate with you in any way, then I consider them successful.

Among all the aspects of being an artist—preparing canvases, ordering materials, framing, drawing, researching, and organizing shows—I find the greatest joy in the challenge of starting a new picture.
